This two day course is designed for group leaders, outdoor professionals and the outdoor enthusiast who may be away from immediate help for some time. This course involves first aid scenarios and is designed to be a practical first aid course.
Certificates are valid for three years.
The course content covers the first aid required for course validation of national Governing body awards:-
Mountain Leader First Aid, Walking Group Leader First Aid, Single Pitch Award First Aid, MIC, MIA, BOF, BELA, BCU, RYA, Mountain Bike Instructor, Caving First Aid.
The course is a suitable course for: First Aid For Teachers, First Aid for Duke of Edinburgh's Award Leaders', Scout Leaders First Aid and Guiding Warrants.
This course is also perfect for those who take part in outdoor activities and would like to be able to give First Aid if required. For example, Rock Climbing First Aid, First Aid for Canoeists, First Aid for Kayakers and Outdoor Activity First Aid.
No previous first aid experience is required to attend this course.
First Aid Course Content
• Vital signs – breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour
• Incident management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents
• Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse
• Breathing Problems - choking
• Circulation Problems – Internal bleeding, external bleeding and treatment for shock
• Damage – treatment of injury: head, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, leg & arm, including remote improvised techniques
• Environmental Considerations – hypothermia, hyperthermia and cold injuries
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Common Illnesses – asthma, diabetes and epilepsy
• Awareness of current regulations
• Safe best practice

This is the only two day outdoor first aid course on the National Database of Approved Qualifications (NDAQ), the Learning Aims Database (LAD) and may be eligible for Learning Skills Council (LSC) funding.
