Canoe Courses - 2012

OPEN CANOEING - INTRODUCING THE SKILLS – 1 OR 2 DAYS


Learn open canoe skills with a fully qualified, experienced and insured canoe coach. We aim to focus on tandem paddling skills, however there is always the option to canoe solo.

COURSE CONTENT

The course will run at the Roman Lakes Marple and the Peak Forrest Canal just off the M60 near Stockport. We intend to look at the following areas:
• Basic boat handling skills for canoe tandem and canoe solo crews 
• Introduction to solo boat handling skills 
• Introduction to some of the basic canoe safety and rescue principles specific to open canoeing
• Introduce you to some of the traditional open boat skills
• A journey by canoe.

The enthusiastic and friendly team at Peak Outdoor Training hold the highest national qualifications and have extensive experience throughout the world. Our high staff to student ratio and our philosophy enable us to coach you in a manner which tailors our delivery to meet your individual needs. The day begins with a full briefing of your chosen activity which will personalise your experience, with you setting your own aims and objectives. On completion these aims will be revisited and personalised action plan will be created. 

 

Participants will also have the opportunity to complete the BCU One Star and Two Star Awards.

THE VENUE

We are ideally positioned to take the first strokes in canoeing. Your coach will choose a venue that has been fully risk assessed and is the perfect venue to learn. Venues are all within 1 hours drive of Manchester and Sheffield.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

 

We can provide all equipment or alternatively please bring your own open boat.

Equipment:
• Warm outdoor wear (all times of the year) thermals, fleece, sweaters, tracksuit No jeans!
• Hat and gloves 
• Wetsuit boots (can be purchased in our stores if required.) 
• Water bottle 
• Vacuum flask 
• Waterproof jacket
• Waterproof trousers 
• Swimming costume/ trunks 
• Personal toiletries and medication 
• Informal clothing for leisure wear 
• Notebook and pens 
• Small amount of cash 
• If you have already: 
• Buoyancy aid 
• Dry bags 
• Helmet
